ClinOne’s single virtual platform unites research sites and patients
New Era
Latinos in Clinical Research (LICR) welcomed Rob Bohacs, CEO and co-founder of ClinOne, to its technology series on July 21. ClinOne uses a single virtual platform to simplify patient enrollment, consent, data capture, compliance and engagement. It connects people, simplifies site processes and supports families worldwide with a single platform and fast implementation.
When Bohacs – who works with world-class pharmaceutical companies to rethink and redevelop how clinical trials should be managed, with patient centricity at its core -- created ClinOne in 2016, his father was diagnosed with ALS. While his in-depth knowledge of clinical research and his hands-on experience with sponsors and sites enabled him to help his parents navigate an overwhelming, stressful, and lonely process, Bohacs was struck by how challenging and overwhelming it must be for people who have no access to a clinical research insider. He believes we have to completely alter how we manage the interaction between research sites and patients, bringing trials directly to patients to simplify a very complex process through technology and automation.
ClinOne has built a large network to unite sites to get more opportunities and to reach people in diverse populations. It is a rapid activation model driven by technology to get trials going as opportunities arise. It has the potential to use technology to move patients into the forefront of research by being a patient-first model of enrollment. The technology is a proactive effort for outreach that connects providers and shows what is available for patients. One motivating factor is the unmet needs in oncology, leading ClinOne to show patients what opportunities they might have to participate in clinical trials.
“COVID brought visibility of clinical trials to the average consumer, showing the need for enrolling diverse populations to see how the vaccine would work on them,” Bohacs explained. “Still, it was harder to recruit during COVID, because people at risk didn’t want to leave their homes. If they were really sick or really at risk, it was harder to bring them to clinical trials. Now the Delta variant is causing some of the same concerns.”
Patient recruitment and enrollment are expensive, time-intensive and challenging aspects of any clinical trial. ClinOne technology helps to ensure that more eligible patients know about trials through specialist referrals and advocacy networks and gives people information to make an informed decision. Sites can accelerate global patient enrollment and improve compliance and retention with MD Referral, Registry Connection, and eConsent on the ClinOne platform. ClinOne simplifies the trial experience and makes it easier for patients to participate. The platform engages clinical trial patients, keeping them compliant and active in the study. Sites have seen 20 percent increased retention after implementing the patient engagement solution.
Whether patient-reported, clinician-reported or captured by a biometric measurement device, endpoint data must be complete, accurate and timely. All of these are impossible to verify using traditional paper-based and manual methods. With ClinOne’s ClinTrial Connect, sites can capture clinical trial data through one digital platform ensuring integrity and delivering more usable patient data.
Paper diaries can no longer be trusted for PRO endpoint data or labelling decisions. In addition to recall bias, unreliable compliance, and incomplete data, it places a tremendous data entry and verification burden on sites. It also delays your access to potentially critical real-time insights or interim analyses. ClinOne’s ePRO solves these problems and mitigates the hidden costs of data management, query resolution and trial delays. It enables adaptive clinical trial designs and real-time notifications for safety, compliance, or interim analyses.
ClinOne has the technology to help move clinical trials into patients’ homes if necessary. If a patient needs transportation to a clinical trial, the technology will connect him or her with a service to be picked up and driven to the site.
